The tour of London could be started with Trafalgar Square which is in the centre. There is a big monument called Nelson's column. Its pedestal is decorated with bas-reliefs of famous naval battles. The large platform, decorated with four great lions is often used by orators during large meetings and demonstrations.
On the North side of Trafalgar Square is the National Gallery — an art gallery, housing the national collection of pictures and the National Portrait Gallery.
White hall leads out of the square to the South. It is the site of many Government offices.
At the end of the White hall is Parliament Square with the Houses of Parliament on the left and Westminster Abbey on the right. Westminster Abbey is famous for its architecture. It has its world famous Poet's Corner, where many of greatest writers (Chaucer, Charles Dickens, Tennysson, Kipling) are buried. It was founded in eleventh century.
Big Ben is the name of given to the clock and bell of the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament.
